| Illinois as a state had very poor drainage in the early days. As a result, older homes and those of the well-to-do were located on the highest points. Pana had a North Swamp, an East Swamp, and a West Swamp. This higher area was called East Mound or Quality Hill by its residents and was referred to as Snob Hill by others. | |
