LARGEST LABOR DAY PARADE IN ILLINOIS

 

            Monday September 6, 2010 will mark the Seventy-Seventh Annual Pana Labor Day Parade.  The two hour “plus” event has been regarded as the “Largest Labor Day Parade” in Illinois .  It has been estimated that over 20,000 viewers line the 10 block parade route to watch the spectacular.   The Parade lines up at Second Street and Kitchell Avenue and at 10:00 a.m. begins it’s two hour track into downtown Pana winding to back to Kitchell Avenue at Fourth Street and then on to Historic Kitchell Park.  

            Over the years those attending bring their lawn chairs and find their spot along the parade route at least an hour before the event making the streets of Pana a social as visitors from the area meet friends and relatives on an annual basis.  Marching Bands, Floats, Horses, Pony Hitches, Clowns, Dignitaries, Commercial Entries, Antique and Collector Vehicles, Fire Trucks and more will join this years Honorary Parade Marshall, Bob Smith, President of the Pana Chamber of Commerce.  

            The Parade files into the 40 Acre Kitchell Park, site of many area Family Reunions, and also home to the newly remodeled 100 year old Chautauqua Pavilion.

Also during the Labor Day Weekend Pana will host the Pana Tri County Fair and Coal Creek Day both held at the Pana Tri-county Fair Grounds
