Hi, I am currently doing some research on Pana during the Great Depression, and would love any comments or suggestions you may have for me. I am interested in information regarding the schools, the town itself,as in what businesses were available and the like. Would your public library have any historical documents relating to this? Thank you so much in advance for your consideration.

I looked up Pana'a organizations and found that one of them needed to be up dated. The Pana Soccer League in now under Tim Karbach, not Clack Amling. I don't know who I need to contact to change this. You can contact me with the information below. Thank You Tim S. Karbach

THANK YOU FOR A VERY INTERESTING WEB SITE. PANA HAS A VERY HISTORICAL AND PROUD BACKGROUND. COAL MINING AND RAILROAD ACTIVITY PLAYED AN IMPORTANT PART IN ITS HISTORY. IT ALSO WAS WELL-KNOWN FOR ITS ROSES.

Dear Community Development,
I was checking out some things on the Pana site and noticed the different organizations. I didn't realize I should have contacted you when we had a change of leadership in Boy Scout Troop 99. Bob Miller had been the Scoutmaster for almost 10 years and handed over the duties to me on Jan. 1 2004. If you could change the information on the organizations listed I would appreciate it. We have 21 active scouts and are always looking for more! Thanks for your help. Ken Bland

Killing time with Google and by chance entered Pana, Illinois - what a pleasant surprise. Congratulations to all responsible for the site. It is well constructed, informative, and the pictures are exceptional. Have been away from Pana for many years (a 1949 grad of PTHS) but still consider it home.

I have a lot of great memories of Pana. My mother is Kathleen ( Kay Beyers ) McGovern. In my youth we made several, never enough, trips to visit our fun family. It was the location of many of my first and fondest experiences. I have always felt comfortable here. I still love to come back and visit all of my favorite Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. You have a great community!

My father, James D. Baldwin was born in Pana and is buried in Linwood Cemertery as are my Great Grandparents and Grandparents and recently I buried my brother there. It is where I spent all my summers at my Grandmother's house and enjoyed the times there. I live in Spfld. so I'm not too far away. It is a lovely town and I am glad there is a web site to visit. Is there any chance there will ever be a listing of the people buried in Linwood Cemetery??

Wow! This is great. I just discoverd your website. After 30 years in San Diego, I'm ready to go home. My husband will retire in October and we'll be headed your way within a few months of that. It would be nice if you had a listserv for discussion and swapping information. Could the library put up an online catalogue? And I agree with everyone else that the News-Palladium should have a website, maybe with online subscriptions for out-of-towners.

Jim, Is anything being planned for celebrating the 150th year? I remember the long dresses and actually found Mama's. I also found a pin that Daddy wore in a contest they had for men who could grow beards called, "Brothers of the Bush",[Honestly]1956, July 1-4. they gave prices for longest, best, etc. They had an ice cream social and lots of old fashion stuff. Now if I remember, surely lots of others remember even more. Jeanie Neece Buck

I was born and raised in Pana, I moved away in 1978. I spent many summers at the Kitchell Park in the above ground pool. I would love to see better pictures of that pool. I still remeber the racks that you kept your towels and stuff in..and we all had to get out for a break I remember somewhere around 3 in the afternoon? Anyway, it was a long time ago, but I would love more photos. Great website, I appreciate the chance to keep in touch with my hometown.

After so many years being away from Pana, it's nice to live close again. Pana will always have a special place in my heart, even having been stationed overseas so long.
Is there a website for old newspapers from the Pana area. Everytime I visit Pana someone tells me how great my dad's (Don Rigel) restaurant was. I'd love to see if there is any further information concerning his love.
Thanks and keep this website going!

We are considering relocation to Pana from Tennessee We are originally from the Chicago suburbs, but have grown to love country life Your little town looks so wonderful, and I think we would be very happy there. Please email any information you think would be helpful. I have two teenage kids who will want to know lots of stuff about what there is to do, etc. Does anyone have pictures they could share? of the high school? anything that may catch thier interest? I am also a web designer and computer tech, how is the work situation in that area for my field?
Thanks, Becky

Thanks for the website--it's always nice recalling the wonderful memories of milkshakes and cherry-cokes at drugstore counters, the cool nostalgic deliciousness of the library on summer afternoons, the mile-long fields of corn fluttering at town's edge, and later, the proms, parades and ballgames at old Pana High. The fair attractions and events are always fun not to mention the the corny dogs and homemade lemonade! I would have graduated in 1980 had I been smart and stayed in school. I still think of it as my graduating class. I did go back to school and obtained my GED and then went on to college for an AAS degree in mechanical design. I miss alot of the people I grew up with as I haven't seen or heard from them in over 20+ years if anyone remembers me I sure would like to hear from you. Chuck, As far as I can tell, the Pana Palladium does NOT have a website, THOUGH there is an email address:
pananews@consolidated.net (I have written to them, with no response...)
Their phone number is (217) 562-2111 or toll free 1 (888) 880-6397; fax (217) 562-3729
Hope this helps...

Absolutely wonderful to come across this website. I was able to find people here who i have not been in touch with for years and years. I was born and raised in Pana. I moved away in 1982, but it will always be home....Good to see the site!!! Talk about strolling down memory lane...WOW!

I posted earlier, but forgot to ask if anyone remembers Palmer's Candy Store? It was located behind Washington Elementary School? How about Nina's Candy Store....I believe it was on DeWitt? I might be wrong about the street....I know when Nina's was open you could fill a small paper bag completely full of goodies and be happy all day long!!!

These two websites show pana in 1899 during the coal miner strikes. Thought they may be something you can add to the historyical part of the pana website! Enjoy!

Thank you for taking the time and effort to present such wonderful reflections of Pana!
I was born in and graduated from High School in Pana; so it will always be a special place for me (and my family). I still love Pana.
I left Pana some 25 yrs ago, seeking a way and a place to make a living; which, unfortunately Pana simply couldn't offer. Fortunately for me, my relocation and diligence provided me opportunities that have lead to a life of self-employed, international business success.
As I look at Pana today, I reflect with great appreciation and warm regards. Pana is a wonderful icon for central IL history… but I also believe it should have a “future”!
Pana needs good, proven leaders… particularly in the governmental and educational sectors of the city. I express my sincerest thoughts, prayers and hopes that the leadership, economy, industry, school-system and overall opportunities improve for both current and future residents. Go-Pana
This web comment will probably not be publshed on your website (which is ok) but I do hope it is passed along to individuals who care about making a difference in what should be a city with not only history... but a city with potential!
Demand and expect the best of your local leaders! They are there to Serve the community (not themselves).
Best Regards

Nicely put together! I stumbled across this site as I was researching the stamping across the front of my old milk can, "Equity Union Creamery". I live in the Colorado mountains, but ironically, attended Millikin U. in the 60's, only 35 miles away from you. I am trying to find more history about this dairy, and maybe the age of my milk can??
